Available on the global market place, ASSA ABLOY’s AperioTM Technology now enables the cost-effective integration of doors with mechanical locks into both new and existing access control systems. Thanks to its innovative wireless technology, integrating doors into an access control system will no longer require extensive wiring or structural alterations in the future. Doors will merely need to be equipped with electronic AperioTM locking cylinders or escutcheons with RFID readers and linked to the access control system via a communications hub.

Access control systems provide buildings with a very high standard of security. However, installing access control doors is very expensive due to the extensive wiring required. This is why access control systems often only cover doors with very high security requirements. All other doors feature mechanical locks and therefore cannot be monitored and managed and if a master key is lost there can be a major security risk, not a satisfactory set of circumstances for security officers, so this is where AperioTM Technology comes in. This technology now enables mechanical doors to be integrated into new or existing access control systems using an online, wireless solution which is very inexpensive when compared to conventional systems.

“As a result, facility managers have greater control, are able to react to organizational changes in real time and will only need to monitor a single security system. Users require just one locking medium. Mechanical keys are abandoned in favour of security and convenience,” explains ASSA ABLOY Position First Name Family Name.

If a user requires access to a room which is secured online with AperioTM, the electronic cylinder or other type of door fitting transmits their RFID card data via encrypted wireless signal to a nearby Aperio™ communications hub, and hubs are able to manage up to 8 doors each so adding to the efficiency of the solution. In a matter of moments, the hub then contacts the access control system via an encrypted serial link to verify whether the medium is authorized for access or not. There is generally no need to replace the existing RFID cards or transponders as these can also be used for AperioTM doors. AperioTM supports the standard RFID technologies iCLASS®, MIFARE™ and MIFARE™ DESFire™, Low Frequency and LEGIC® Advant are also in the pipeline.

With its wireless AperioTM Technology, ASSA ABLOY provides further proof of its leading market position in the field of high-tech locking solutions. “We have developed this technology to meet the growing need for security and control. Until now, the options for upgrading access control systems were expensive and, consequently, severely limited. Help is now at hand with our cost-effective AperioTM solution. AperioTM also allows us to open up market opportunities for access control system OEMs and system integrators that historically they have not been able to find a cost effective solution for,” explains Chris Bone, ASSA ABLOY Vice-President Access Control EMEA.

As AperioTM Technology is based on an open standard, it can be integrated into access control systems made by any manufacturer. You can find further information and references at www.assaabloy.XXX/aperio.
