Key topics discussed during the conference included leading banks' growth strategies in a more confident 2010, regulation of payment market in Asia, security risks and payment fraud and cards marketing loyalty.

"Identifying, tracking and managing the deployment of critical assets in today's business environment are significant topics for discussion among thought leaders, especially at Cards Asia 2010," said Andrew Tay, President of Zebra Asia Pacific. "Together with our trusted partners, Zebra Technologies will be showcasing state-of-the-art on-demand printers and solutions like the ZXP Series 8. This collaboration will provide innovative technologies to address the needs and demands of today's customers and help to further strengthen our business commitment in the Asia Pacific region."

With an expanded format this year, Cards Asia had a new and improved payments showcase with focused application zones for ID management & access control, mobile money, and banking and payments. The two-day technical cards seminars held within the exhibition floor, provided the most updated technology developments and best practices in the industry.

RFID World Asia 2010

This year marked the 7th year of the RFID World Asia, a product of the close collaboration between Terrapinn and GS1 Singapore in promoting RFID solutions in the region.

In recent years, Singapore has seen a robust growth of RFID applications for innovation and sustainability. Outside of Singapore, rapid adoption of RFID applications and high RFID revenues are observed in markets like China, India, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. A significant factor for the growth, industry experts say, has stemmed from the applications of RFID in vertical segments such as healthcare, travel and leisure, transportation and public services. Increasingly, newer application segments such as security-based solutions, contactless payments and green economy are in their emerging stage and are predicted to fuel growth in the new economy.

Frank Dorrian, President, International RFID Business Association (RFIDba) Asia Pacific commented: "Aside from reaping financial benefits from RFID, it is also now a force for change in the fight against global warming. There is now evidence demonstrating that RFID and the ICT industry are key players in creating a low carbon society. RFID can provide the solution that enables businesses and individuals to "see" their energy and emissions in real time, and provide the means for optimising systems and processes to make them more efficient."

A highlight of this year's event was the inaugural RFID World Asia Awards which recognized and honored the best practices of Asia Pacific's RFID industry players through three award categories: RFID Champion Award, Best RFID Implementation and Most Innovative RFID Solution. Winners of the Best RFID Implementation and Most Innovative RFID Solution were selected by a judging panel while the RFID Champion was determined through voting by the conference delegates on the day of the event.

Retail Solutions World Asia 2010

Retailers today face an extremely challenging environment. Although consumer spending has been rising steadily as the world's economy gradually tiptoes out of the recession, many still adopt a cautious appetite for their purchases.

"The new economy has given rise to the smarter consumer - one who uses technology to make more informed buying decisions, exchange information with peers, and make purchases on-the-go and shop across multiple channels. This change in shopping habits is a goldmine for progressive retailers looking for real-time insights," said Christopher Cave Jones, Distribution Software Solutions Lead, IBM Growth Markets Unit.

"IBM's broad portfolio of retail analytics offerings can help retailers identify the most valuable data and turn it in to actionable insights. Retailers who are able to demonstrate they are responding to consumers' immediate needs by personalising offers and changing product assortments will build loyal consumers who are willing to pay a premium," Jones added.

"The Asian economy is on the upswing and has sprung back from recession faster and in better financial shape than other regions around the world," said David Miller, Regional Vice President for NCR in South Asia Pacific. "This buoyant economy presents an opportunity for many businesses throughout South Asia to invest in technology solutions that enhance customer interactions, relationships and satisfaction. NCR looks forward to introducing the latest generation of our innovative retail solutions at Retail Solutions World Asia that can help these companies realize their goals."

The 4th annual Retail Solutions World Asia 2010 served as an annual platform where leading retailers and top technology providers came together to discover the latest retail technology and solutions, learnt best practices, shared exclusive high-level retail strategies and formed potential partnerships. Highlights of Retail Solutions included a seminar on how to identify the opportunities and trends ahead of Asia's retail environment, customer-centric retailing best practices, new business models and analysis of how companies can adopt and implement retail solutions.
