Dortronics Systems, Inc. Provides University of Boston With Custom Solution For Dormitory Access System.

The “Made in the USA” found on all Dortronics Systems, Inc. products confers more than just a country of origin or sense of national pride.  To John FitzPatrick, Vice President of Dortronics Systems, Inc., it also means being able to bring quality commercial off-the-shelf or custom electromagnetic locking devices to market quickly using the in-house engineering expertise and production capabilities located at the company’s Sag Harbor, NY facility.

“In house manufacturing affords us greater business agility with the benefits reaped by our customers,” said FitzPatrick.  “In addition to responding quickly to market demands, we can easily customize an individual product or make modifications to suit the client’s need.”

While Dortronics Systems, Inc. offers a full line of off-the-shelf access control products, developing made to order products is their trademark strength.  “From custom finishes for matching with design décor to multiple switch configurations, resellers approach us regularly for custom design work,” continued FitzPatrick.  “A perfect example is the recent requirement for new door control hardware for installation in dormitory lobbies at Boston University.  Instead of the usual two gang plate key switch panel, the application called for a four gang plate key switch panel that also included integrated heavy duty push button assemblies.”

The new model, 5141W/2-5287, features a key-operated mortise cylinder switch with two, well marked push button exit releases.  Rated for heavy duty usage, the face plate is constructed of 1/8” thick aluminum and the push button housing of cast aluminum.  Key operation is removable in either or both positions and the push button assembly includes heavy duty 10 amp momentary action SPDT contact outputs.

Key switches are used most often to restrict use of electrically operated entrance control systems, alarms, electric locking devices and other similar equipment.  Actuation of switch controls can be limited to authorized key carrying personnel.  They are ideal for after hours access into buildings, such as apartment entrances with magnetic locks and time controlled locking systems.  Key switches can also be used to authorize by-passing or shunting of door alarms and delayed release exit control systems.  Other applications are security interlock override to restricted areas.  The mode selection of day/night automatic door operating systems can be controlled with key switches.
