Honeywell's "connected buildings" technologies effectively integrate security with building controls systems

Honeywell's presence at ASIS 2011 in Orlando will be marked by a focus on technologies that create "connected buildings" facilities that can streamline operations by integrating security with building control systems. Among the highlighted technologies will be software that allows dealers and integrators to more easily fold video surveillance into building systems, a new line of network video recorders that embrace open standards, and remote-monitoring services that allow facility managers to keep tabs on multiple properties.

"The face of security technology has changed dramatically over the last few years, and today's organizations are looking for more than a security system, they're looking for something that will contribute to the bottom line," said Ron Rothman, president of Honeywell Security Group. "Many of the additions we've been making to our portfolio are designed to fit security and broader business needs such as productivity and efficiency."

New Honeywell security technologies to be demonstrated at ASIS include:

The Rapid Eye - Driver software tool, which combines Honeywell's flagship Rapid Eye digital video recorder (DVR) with integration software maker Tridium Inc.'s Niagara Framework. This integration allows installers and security dealers to more easily connect video surveillance with traditional building automation technology such as environmental controls, energy management and lighting systems. This enables tasks such as diagnosing heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) maintenance issues, or detecting water leaks using video.

  • The newest version of the company's Pro-Watch® security management system, which now features a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) single-door controller that allows organizations to add one door at a time to an existing Pro-Watch system. Pro-Watch 3.81 also features open integration with the Honeywell Software Development Kit (HSDK), allowing it to easily integrate with third-party systems. The platform integrates various security components, including visitor management, access control, IP video surveillance, intrusion and communications.
  • The recently released MAXPRO® NVR XE, which combined with Honeywell's low-cost Performance Series IP cameras is the security industry's first complete high-definition video surveillance system designed for small business owners. MAXPRO NVR XE will feature support for both the PSIA and ONVIF video standards for easier integration with third-party video systems. Additionally, Honeywell will demonstrate MAXPRO apps for mobile devices.
  • Total Connect 2.0, which allows business owners to remotely manage their security systems using web-enabled devices and be alerted to both security and non-security events, such as a water pipe bursting or sudden change in indoor air temperature. The system's multi-site feature allows users to upload images of their locations and click on a photo to remotely check status. Users can also efficiently manage these sites by customizing access settings for contractors, employees, cleaning crews, etc.
  • The VISTA Turbo Series control panels, which integrate intrusion, video and access control across large commercial properties. It can support up to six graphic touchscreen keypads, is compatible with Total Connect 2.0, and features faster clock speed to enable a more-robust performance.
