Bosch’s Praesideo, public address system, presides over the Scotstoun Stadium
Bosch Praesideo is the world's first fully digital public address and emergency sound system

Athletes and spectators at the newly refurbished Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow won't miss a beat, thanks to sophisticated digital Public Address and Voice Alarm (PA/VA) technology from Bosch Security Systems. The system was recently installed at the stadium by PEL Services, one of the UK's foremost providers of commercial sound and communications systems. Scotstoun Stadium has benefited from an £18 million refit ahead of the Commonwealth Games coming to Glasgow in 2014. Opened by the Princess Royal in early 2010, the revamped stadium features two new grandstands with a total capacity of 5,000. The complex has an outdoor 400-metre track, an indoor track, offices and meeting spaces, and provides physiotherapy, massage, and strength and conditioning facilities for athletes.

With these world-class new facilities, Scotstoun Stadium required state-of-the-art safety systems to match, and so turned to PEL Services with its extensive experience in this field. "The Stadium needed a high performing PA/VA system to ensure the safety of athletes and spectators throughout," says Vic Swain of PEL Services. "After careful consideration, PEL Services chose the advanced Bosch Praesideo digital public address and emergency sound system.

"The Praesideo system is fully monitored and provides excellent audibility as a result of its ability to process and communicate both audio signals and control data entirely digitally. The system uses fibre optic cabling which ensures signal integrity and allows considerable distances to be covered, which is ideal in the Stadium environment."

PEL Services interfaced Praesideo with the stadium's fire alarm system and incorporated a fire officer's microphone

Bosch Praesideo is the world's first fully digital public address and emergency sound system. Its unique optical network offers total freedom in system design, interference-free audio and a high level of redundancy that traditional systems cannot offer. It is fully programmable, and interfaces with other security systems.

"Praesideo has been used with Bosch and Bosch Electro Voice loudspeakers throughout the stadium for total clarity," Vic continues. "The system has been designed to perform a number of key functions to ensure the safety and enjoyment of visitors. We installed a variety of audio feeds, including an audio rack with CD players for broadcast of music to any selected zones or ‘all call', digital messaging of security announcements, chimes and time signals etc. The system also features a radio microphone for trackside interviews and standard microphones at reception, events control and the commentary booth. In fact as many as 28 different uncompressed audio signals can be broadcast simultaneously using this state-of-the-art system," he says.

For added safety in the event of a fire, PEL Services also interfaced Praesideo with the stadium's fire alarm system and incorporated a fire officer's microphone. And, to further enhance accessibility, PEL installed induction loops in the meeting/press suite, on the club deck, at reception and all ticket office counters.

These systems are designed to reduce background noise and improve clarity of sound for hearing aid wearers. The Praesideo racks have been installed by PEL in the main equipment room for easy access by authorized personnel.

"We knew that the Praesideo would meet the demands of the Stadium, and had the quality software for ease of installation. Alongside its recognized installer training programmes, Bosch also offered end-user training for authorized Stadium staff," Vic concluded.
