WRG chose RISCO Group’s ProSYS as the solution that met all requirements

Waste Recycling Group (WRG), a leading waste management services company in the UK, is part of the FCC international environmental services, infrastructure and energy group, which operates in Europe, South America and the United States. Each year WRG recycles and disposes of millions of tons of household, commercial and industrial waste.

The Challenge

WRG operates facilities for the reception, recycling and disposal of waste, including a network of waste transfer and recycling centers, and a regional network of landfill sites. They also manage a wide range of recycling sites on behalf of local authorities for use by the general public. Each site consists of several buildings varying in size and structure. WRG had experienced an increase in break-ins that targeted the sites’ vending machines, computer equipment and valuable recycled metal, costing the company tens of thousands of pounds in losses and damages. The break-ins were facilitated in part due to the remote locations of the sites. WRG wanted to combat these break-ins by increasing security and tightening access control of personnel and vehicles to the sites. In addition to their existing physical barriers, WRG wanted to electronically secure the sites’ buildings and perimeters, and to receive real time alerts in the event of an intrusion attempt. Additionally, the company wanted to increase operational efficiency at the sites and reduce on site monitoring costs.

The Solution

WRG in conjunction with Blue Flash Security chose RISCO Group’s ProSYS Integrated Security System coupled with RISCO’s Access Control as the solution that met all requirements. ProSYS secures and monitors WRG’s treatment plant, critical pumps and power supplies. SynopSYS Integrated Security & Building Management software was implemented to monitor and control the ProSYS and Access Control systems. The software also controls third party DVRs & hybrid NVRs, enabled by the software’s true open platform architecture. All security devices are displayed via intuitive synoptic maps, and real time text and e-mail alerts are sent 24/7. WRG plans to use the software to monitor third party Fire Alarm system as well as a building management platform in order to increase efficiency and reduce costs at the sites. Perimeter protection is provided by RISCO Group’s award winning WatchOUT outdoor detectors. WatchOUT uses Selective Event Recognition to distinguish between real intrusion events and the many false alarm causes inherent in the outdoor environment. RISCO Group’s professional motion detectors including WatchOUT are installed on the ProSYS Bus, enabling remote control of all device parameters and advanced remote diagnostics.

RISCO Group’s Access Control system controls admittance of commercial vehicles onto the site and on the Weigh Bridge, as well as personnel entering and leaving buildings. Any deviation from normal procedures is reported immediately to the control room.

Highlights

  • RISCO Group’s ProSYS Integrated Security System in conjunction with RISCO’s Access Control and video were chosen to secure WRG's facilities.
  • SynopSYS Integrated Security & Building Management software enables control and management of multiple systems and sites from one intuitive user interface.
  • The software sends real time alerts 24/7, allowing immediate and effective action to take effect in response to an event.
  • WatchOUT outdoor detectors, installed on the ProSYS Bus, effectively protect the sites’ perimeters while eliminating false alarms.

The Customer’s Point of View

Blue Flash Security’s General Manager commented, “After using RISCO’s products for years now, choosing ProSYS for this project was a natural choice knowing all of its full capabilities. It also allowed us to use SynopSYS Integrated Security & Building Management software to graphically show all the multiple sites systems that are being monitored. The high levels of customer service and support we continue to receive speaks volumes, coupled with the technical support and commissioning assistance; I can only say positive things about RISCO’s overall general attitude towards myself as a business and also more specifically about this PSIM integration project”.
