ISONAS enables Goodwill to integrate door security with the software of a variety of business systems

Goodwill Industries of Denver is comprised of a network of 23 retail stores, 1 Deja Blue Boutique store, 3 Outlet Worlds, ECommerce, 16 stand-alone Donation Centers and 5 warehouse locations throughout metro Denver and northern Colorado. In 2011, Goodwill Denver helped over 21,000 individuals within the greater Denver area with its initiatives to better the community. These initiatives include job training programs at local high schools, job skill training and placement for adults, and providing work options at Goodwill for the disabled, among many others.

Scalable Access Control Solution

In the summer of 2012 Stan Smith, the Director of Loss Prevention & Security for Goodwill Denver, began his search for a facility access control solution for the division’s corporate office. While choosing which access control system would be installed, Smith’s most important requirement was that the solution would not only meet the security needs of their corporate office, but would be scalable to all of Denver Goodwill locations as well. Furthermore, it was critical that they would be able to standardize on one solution rather than having numerous standalone systems.

ISONAS IP-To-The-Door Access Control Solution

The ISONAS option was presented to Mr. Smith and the Goodwill Team by ISONAS Security Systems. When presented with the ISONAS IP-to-the-door access control solutions, Smith and the Goodwill IT department saw a solution that could provide both standalone intelligence at each location and could be centrally monitored and administered from their corporate office. The superior scalability of the ISONAS system allowed the Goodwill Loss Prevention department to rest assured that expansion to multiple locations would not be any more costly on a per-door basis than the first installation in their corporate office. In Smith’s words; “Installing ISONAS at our corporate office now opens up the ability to standardize on one single proximity card that our employees can use at each and every one of our locations”.

Monitoring Multiple Locations

The IT department also liked the idea that ISONAS allowed them to use the same employee cards from their other business locations, and to be able to enroll the cards remotely. The ISONAS engineering team was even able to set up a way in which Lori Montanoa member of the Loss Prevention team, would be able to enroll the cards into the system remotely using ISONAS’ browser based software; Crystal Easy Web. Montano and Smith found the ISONAS tech support and engineering team to be “outstanding when working with our IT department to get the solution put in place exactly as we envisioned it”.

It was clear when the ISONAS solution was presented to Goodwill that the system would be able to fit their unique needs. However, the fact that the ability to control so many different locations spread across the entire Denver area would come at such a low cost pleased Goodwill. With over 30 years of experience in the loss prevention and security industry, Smith believed the cost of the ISONAS system was “extremely competitive when compared with what I have seen over the years with traditional access control systems”. With the cost of the ISONAS being roughly 30% less expensive than other competing systems, Denver Goodwill has an easier path to scaling the size of their system to standardize across their entire retail and operations divisions.

Open Architecture Platform

Goodwill was delighted to discover that by standardising on an access control solution like ISONAS, they wouldn’t be limiting their ability to tie their security system into future technology investments like video surveillance, or time and attendance systems. With its “open architecture” software platform, ISONAS enables Goodwill to integrate door security with the software of a variety of business systems. With the simple investment in only controlling 2 doors with ISONAS at their corporate office, Goodwill is able to address their immediate security needs with a solution that is entirely scalable and flexible with regards to expansion of their system. ISONAS will be able to adapt to all of Goodwill Denver’s evolving security needs as they arise in the future, allowing their Loss Prevention department to take control of their situation in a cost effective manner.
