Presented with the requirement to provide a security installation for refurbished offices associated with a busy aircraft maintenance facility at Dublin Airport, Gallant Security Systems selected SiPass Entro access control equipment from Vanderbilt Security Products as the basis for its solution. This range of equipment was chosen because of its excellent track record for performance and reliability, its versatility and its outstanding value for money.

Vanderbilt SiPass Entro System

Ireland's busiest airport and one of the ten busiest in Europe, Dublin Airport provides on-site maintenance facilities for many of the hundreds of aircrafts that use it every day. Recently, the decision was made to upgrade these facilities and an important part of the project was the refurbishment of the administrative offices that accommodate the workers who co-ordinate, monitor and control the maintenance operations.

As part of the office upgrade project, a new security system was needed to control access through the 25 doors that allow entry to and movement between the areas that make up the office suite. Gallant Security Systems of Dublin, a company with more than 25 years of experience of designing and supplying security installations for all major business sectors in Ireland, was approached to devise a solution that would be dependable, sufficiently flexible to cope with future changes and also cost-effective. After carefully considering a range of options, the company ultimately decided that a Vanderbilt SiPass Entro system would best meet the requirements of the project and would be easy to work with.

SiPass SR35i Segment Controller

"Over the years, we've carried out projects with access control equipment from many different suppliers”, said Des Brennan, Contracts Manager at Gallant Security Systems, "but this is the first time we've used the SiPass Entro system. What particularly attracted us to it for this application was the user-friendly design of the hardware, the easy set-up, the flexibility of the system and the very competitive pricing. In addition, we knew from our long experience in the security sector that Vanderbilt products have an excellent reputation for quality and reliability."

For the Dublin Airport application, the engineers at Gallant Security Systems selected a SiPass SR35i segment controller, partnered with a standard PC, as the central element of the system, complemented by 25 DC12 door control modules, one for each of the doors covered by the system. The model of SR35i controller selected has a maximum capacity of 32 doors and therefore provides generous capacity for future expansion of the installation. It processes all of the information in the system and stores the complete database of cardholders and their entry privileges. It is, therefore, robust in its functioning and it remains completely operational even when it is not connected to an external PC or server.

DC12 Door Controllers

"The equipment was fast and easy to install and configure – we were able to complete all of the work on site in just over a week"

The DC12 door controllers support two readers and are configured to control both entries and exits to the restricted areas in the aircraft maintenance administrative offices. The controllers have an integrated status display window that simplifies installation and maintenance and they include an anti-tamper switch for added security.

To work with the new installation, Gallant Security Systems has also supplied 300 contactless access control cards. The system allows these to be readily programmed to allow users access to any or all of the areas within the office suite and also to restrict access for individual users depending on the time of day or day of the week.

"Our first experience of working with SiPass Entro has been a very good one”, said Des Brennan. "The equipment was fast and easy to install and configure – we were able to complete all of the work on site in just over a week – and once it was set up, it worked perfectly. As this was our first SiPass installation, we called the Vanderbilt support team with a couple of small queries, and the we got response was fast, accurate and helpful."

"Overall, we like the Vanderbilt equipment very much and our customer at Dublin Airport is also delighted with the performance and versatility of the new access control installation. There's absolutely no doubt that we'll be looking at SiPass Entro in future whenever we have access control requirements."
