Escalating demand for highly detailed 24/7 video images produces colossal amounts of data, which needs extensive storage capacity as well as time-consuming monitoring and assessment. With this in mind, Bosch will be the first to offer video analytics at the edge as a standard, rather than an optional feature. It will require no additional investment or license fees from the customer. Bosch video analytics adds sense and structure to video data at the point of capture (at the edge), enabling users to effortlessly search through large amounts of video data and to pinpoint the information that matters most to them. In this way users can take appropriate action faster, easier and more efficiently.

Reduces 24/7 Human Live Monitoring Errors

Video analytics at the edge creates a smart security system network, using metadata to add sense and structure to data and enabling each camera to operate independently. With built-in (edge) analytics, each camera in the network can then interpret captured data and decide what and when to stream based on configurable triggers. By only streaming the data that is needed, the technology can help reduce network strain and storage requirements. The end results are relevant, immediate alerts and key statistics, enhancing the accuracy of the video surveillance system and reducing the margin of error that comes with 24/7 human live monitoring.

Each ‘smart camera’ operates independently without the need for a central analytics server. Decentralizing intelligence in this way eliminates a single point of failure (central analytics server), meaning that if one camera or encoder fails, the system maintains full performance. Video analytics at the edge also ensures scalability, enabling users to replace or add cameras to a network where needed. Another advantage is that the camera can detect relevant information, like moving objects in the scene, and dynamically optimize image processing to ensure perfect exposure of the object of interest at all times. All Bosch video analytics algorithms are developed in-house together with the automotive division to deliver the most reliable and robust solution for automotive applications, like autonomous driving, as well as network video surveillance solutions.

No Additional Investment Or License Fees Required

Bosch’s starlight family will be the first camera portfolio offering video analytics at the edge as standard. From June, a full suite of Essential Video Analytics will be provided on the DINION IP starlight 6000 fixed box and FLEXIDOME IP starlight 6000 fixed dome cameras. All IP 7000 and IP 8000 starlight cameras will come equipped with state-of-the-art Intelligent Video Analytics from Bosch; a full suite of robust video analytics algorithms offering the highest levels of accuracy for the ultimate in video analytics. Both Essential Video Analytics and Intelligent Video Analytics require no additional investment or licence fees from the customer.

Essential Video Analytics

Small and medium businesses, large retail stores, commercial buildings and warehouses will benefit from Essential Video Analytics at no extra cost. Essential Video Analytics delivers 14 different video analytics algorithms that can be used for smart movement detection and business analytics. It allows a single camera solution to be used to enforce health and safety regulations, intelligent intrusion and idle-object detection; as well as to perform crowd density assessment. It also provides useful business metrics such as people counting.

Intelligent Video Analytics

Intelligent Video Analytics is specifically designed for the most demanding environments. It has the added capacity to deliver the required level of accuracy for mission critical applications such as perimeter protection for airports and critical infrastructures, in addition to ship tracking and traffic monitoring. Intelligent Video Analytics offers 16 different video analytics algorithms and can do everything that Essential Video Analytics does. What makes Intelligent Video Analytics stand out is its ability to differentiate between genuine security events and known false triggers such as challenging environments where snow, wind, rain, water reflections and distance could make images even more difficult to interpret. Intelligent Video Analytics therefore minimizes costly false positives and enables users to focus on what is most relevant to them.

Bosch feels that the offering of video analytics at the edge as standard is now a necessity to cater to the ever-increasing demand for detail and the proliferation of cameras. Therefore, following in the footsteps of the starlight portfolio, all Bosch IP 4000 and IP 5000 fixed and moving cameras will also feature Essential Video Analytics in the next 12 months. All IP 7000 – IP 9000 fixed and moving cameras already come complete with the latest state-of-the-art Intelligent Video Analytics.
