A new corporate identity (CI) will be rolled out across the entire Nexus Group

vps has for a number of years offered logical security solutions in collaboration with Nexus

Over the last 20 years, vps has gone on a journey that has taken the company from identity card personalization to mobile identity management. As the pace of technological change continues to accelerate, its security specialists have honed their skills and continuously evolved their products and solutions. In the process, vps’ image has been transformed: the focus on hardware and cardware has shifted to include IT services and consulting; the ID card experts have become the identity and access management experts. This change did not come out of thin air – it was driven by the employees and customers of vps. Now, the company is entering a new chapter in its history. At the 11th vps/Nexus customer day, held in Ettlingen on June 13 and 14, it was announced that vps ID Systeme GmbH will in the future operate under the name Nexus Technology GmbH.

The acronym vps stands for video print systems. 20 years ago, video printers were used to create ID card designs on PVC film. Multiple film layers were combined and laminated to generate a thicker material, from which the individual cards were die cut. In the early days, vps focused on the card manufacturing process. But as the company grew and expanded its portfolio, it soon became clear that the name no longer matched its image – and as a result, vps Video Print Systeme became vps ID Systeme.

Today, vps is a leading producer and vendor of identity management systems. Major international companies rely on vps products to issue and manage company ID cards securely and effectively. And the pace of technological change shows no sign of slowing. By leveraging its creativity and innovative spirit, vps plans to continue playing an active role in shaping future developments.

As part of the reorganization,
Nexus Technology GmbH in
Berlin – also a wholly owned
subsidiary of Technology Nexus
AB in Stockholm – will merge with
vps ID Systeme in Ettlingen

The company’s roots lie in the physical security space, and its partners include leading providers of access control technologies, including canteen and parking lot systems. Many customers deploy vps ID card management solutions to grant physical access to buildings and rooms. But vps also supports organizations in managing logical access to networks, applications and devices. The convergence of logical and physical security has been a hot topic in industry circles for many years. And as employee mobility grows and the BYOD trend continues apace, the demand for holistic physical and logical security concepts is greater than ever.

To this end, vps has for a number of years offered logical security solutions in collaboration with Swedish IT security specialists Nexus. With the merger of the two companies in March 2012, this successful relationship has entered a new stage. vps and Nexus ideally complement each other. The partnership is the embodiment of the vps slogan “IT meets ID” – the logical security experts meet the physical security experts.

“It is not only the technologies that are a perfect fit. We also share a similar corporate culture and approach to our interaction with customers and partners – and this was a key factor in our decision to merge last year. Our employees and customers value the combination of technical expertise and the personal touch,” explains Jürgen König, CEO of vps. “In July 2013, our relationship will move to the next level. We want to achieve even more by combining our strengths. To this end, we will drive the development of physical and logical security under a shared name and logo: vps will become Nexus.”

As part of the reorganization, Nexus Technology GmbH in Berlin – also a wholly owned subsidiary of Technology Nexus AB in Stockholm – will merge with vps ID Systeme in Ettlingen. Furthermore, vps ID Systeme GmbH will be renamed Nexus Technology GmbH. Bernd Dieckmann, former managing director of Nexus Berlin, will join Jürgen König and Peter Gille on the management board at Nexus Technology GmbH. Against this background, a new corporate identity (CI) will be rolled out across the entire Nexus Group.

"Jürgen König will remain CEO
of Nexus Technology GmbH
and will play a key role in
future strategy development
as CMO of the Nexus Group"

“The new logo, website, color palette and visuals reflect our unified approach and shared vision of making Nexus the leading European provider of physical and logical security solutions. The revamped CI was developed over the last year by a cross-company team headed by Jürgen König,” remarks Peter Gille, Nexus CEO. “As a co-founder and CEO, Jürgen König was instrumental in making vps what it is today. His innovative ideas and creativity – together with a strong team of dedicated, skilled employees – are the secret to the company’s success. Jürgen König will remain CEO of Nexus Technology GmbH and will play a key role in future strategy development as CMO of the Nexus Group.”
