Bewator Entro access control system was recently installed as part of Sweden's prominent Skarholmen Centre redevelopment.

Leading access security specialist, Siemens Building Technologies Security Products, was commissioned by Swedish security installers, Skanska and Flexib El, to provide an integrated solution for security and access control to the construction site of this 60,000 m2, half a billion kronor (ca. 40 million pounds) Skarholmen redevelopment.

This comprehensive redevelopment, which increases the original build by more than 60 per cent, is currently in its first year of a three year development.  At any given time it can have up to 400 construction contractors on site, and permanently accommodates eight portacabins.

The challenge for Skanska and Flexib El was to consider the size and transitory environment of this mammoth redevelopment, and to provide a comprehensive and integrated security solution that would ensure efficient monitoring of the workers and portacabins.  The most appropriate solution, because of its flexibility, was the Bewator Entro access control system.

Bewator Entro has been developed with installation and user friendliness in mind, without compromising on functionality and performance.  This has lead to the system becoming the solution of choice for securing a wide range of developments, from retail outlets and public buildings to residential properties and recreational facilities.

On this redevelopment, Bewator Entro accommodates wireless communication between the sub centres (portacabins) to the connected card readers.  Both the eight Portacabins and the site office are equipped with two card readers, one for entry and one for exit, a total of 18 card readers.

With Entro's open software interface, BAPSI, integration into third party systems such as member software registration packages is also possible.  In order to monitor who is at the workplace, when and where, Skanska has chosen to use this Windows-based software with Entro's screen event log function, which enables the site manager to check on attendance and obtain lists of those people who are currently at the workplace at any given time.

A software consultant, RSoft, developed the time registration software, which has been integrated with Bewator Entro's BAPSI communication protocol, enabling the transfer of each entry and exit to the time registration system.  When a construction worker enters through a door equipped with a card reader, they register as present at the workplace and the event is transferred via BAPSI to the time registration software.  Construction workers are time registered in the same way when they leave.

From the computer in the site office, the Entro access control system is administered with the user-friendly software that has been integrated into the card production time registration package.  When the administrator is registering a new user in the system, they enter all the user's personal information in the time registration software and enter the card number via the tg-prox keyboard reader.  The personal information is then transferred automatically over to the card production software and via BAPSI to Bewator Entro, making the whole process extremely easy and simple to use.

Bewator Entro is a modern access control system developed with the end user in mind.  The first Entro system was launched in 1997 and today it is one of the most popular access control systems on the international security market.

Entro 5 is the latest version of the Bewator Entro system, and offers a number of new functionalities.  A key feature is the segment controller, which has been redesigned to operate as a stand alone system, without the need to connect to a PC.  This makes the controller less vulnerable to tampering, and simplifies system servicing and extensions.  Other improvements include door controllers, which have been updated to include an integrated status display, again simplifying maintenance and fault-finding, and making the installation and operation of the system much easier.
