The built-to-order robot systems provide advanced levels of surveillance and security capabilities
SGR-1 and SGR-2 robot sentry devices and STAR-1 and Mini STAR autonomous mobile sentry vehicles were at display

Samsung Techwin America is showcasing its expertise in developing innovative hardware and artificial intelligence (AI) technology solutions for the physical security marketplace this week at ISC West. The company’s line of intelligent security guard robot systems, on display at the Samsung booth, includes the SGR-1 and SGR-2 robot sentry devices and the STAR-1 and Mini STAR autonomous mobile sentry vehicles. Used separately or in combination, the built-to-order robot systems provide advanced levels of surveillance and security capabilities that can increase situational awareness, minimize manpower requirements and reduce exposure to physical danger for security personnel.

According to Frank De Fina, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Samsung Techwin America, the intelligent security guard robot systems draw on Samsung’s expertise in advanced sensors, optics and servo systems technology. “Samsung is skillfully adept in developing intelligent systems that are designed and optimized to deliver cutting-edge physical security system solutions,” says Mr. De Fina. “The SGR series combines state-of-the-art technology and image processing to provide unprecedented levels of sophisticated safety and security.”

The SGR-1 features multiple sensors, acoustic devices, cameras and ground surveillance radar for detecting and tracking purposes.  It is designed as a tower and uses surveillance and tracking modules, each with pan/tilt capability, which can be custom configured. An optional weapon station module is also available. The system is compatible with both wired and wireless networks and is controlled by the companion operating software. The SGR-1 is ideal for use in applications such as border security, transportation facilities, critical infrastructures or military bases.

The SGR-2 is a modular pan/tilt surveillance and security system that consists of thermal and CCD cameras with video stabilization, digital compass and GPS functionality and an optional laser range finder, illuminator or search light. Designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, it is flexible, light and compact and can be either fixed mounted or transportable. It features powerful operating software, wireless and wired network capabilities and can be administered and controlled from different sites or integrated with SGR-1 installations. In addition to the above mentioned applications, the compact size of the SGR-2 makes it ideal for rapid response deployments.

The Mini STAR autonomous drive vehicle is designed to provide mobile patrol surveillance in large spaces such as armament depots or in hazardous environments. It features self-localisation, pattern recognition and communication technology among other on-board capabilities to help ensure fast and accurate surveillance.

The STAR-1 autonomous drive vehicle is a ruggedised and enhanced version of the Mini STAR mobile patrol vehicle. It can detect targets at up to four (4) kilometers (approximately 2.5 miles) and a laser rangefinder helps track them at up to two (2) kilometers (approximately 1.2 miles), with distances halved at night.

Samsung Techwin reports that the SGR robotic sentry devices have been successfully deployed along Korea’s demilitarized zone (DMZ) and in the Panama Canal Zone.
